Since the leadership debate, I have been a changed man, changed in the sense that I do not know how to feel about the majority of our political leadership and about the future of the Canadian political life. As if the “negativity” and “pure hostility” on display in the leadership debate was not enough … now I am finding hordes of political aides gloating on the net over stuff like www.bushharper.com. My immediate reaction ….. folks grow up … Harper is a stooge of Bush … Come on … not only is it a stretch, it is disgraceful that we are casting a sitting Prime Minister like this. Let us not forget, he is our prime minister - the highest position in our sacred land. True, this is not to say that we should put forward our opinions, but can we atleast accord him the respect that every prime minister - an elected member … the voice and representation of the people of the land - should be accorded. Wake up everyone … the whole world is watching. Atlantic does not give us a media buffer that it used to before, folks from far off lands are plugged into every single thing that comes out of our mouth. And if anyone is really gloating, its them on our stupidity and the lows to which our political elite has fallen. All of the political media is practically based on the “OTHER GUY”. We have stuff coming from the Liberal Party with not even a singular mention of their leader, with comparisons of the (other party) incumbents being made with the leaders of yester years. If that is not sad, then I would challenge one and all to tell me … what is? And at this moment I can say, without having to go and get proof of and with a fair bit of confidence, that people out there (read “the rest of the world”) are laughing at us … let us wake up and stop this idiocy before all of our prime ministers (for generations to come) are branded as idiots and misfits by the world at large because there would always be someone talking about what should not be brought up in a public discourse.

As a good friend of mine recently wrote in his own (non political) blog post, the only certainity with a negativity is the inevitable destruction of all involved. I agreed with Julien then, and I agree now. Wake up call Canada. But maybe then politics just works like this. If it does, then I can see why we have such a sense of apathy towards it. If this is the norm, I would be apathetic too ……..
