I am about to step out to vote … it is a great day to vote … a warm 20 degrees celcius, fall out in all its wondrous glory and the little village of Ottawa at its beautiful best … wow what a great privelege to be able to vote in this warm, accepting country … and then I turn on the TV … BANG … they are still talking about “Hidden Agendas” … come on guys … enough
A few days ago I had wanted to write a post on “Why is Mr. Layton so angry” … If everything Jack Layton says about practically everyone else was (for a moment) to be accepted as truth, we should run to our cellars and hide (ofcourse after hoarding enough candles to live through the dark ages that have befallen us). Ma ma mia, Is he angry or what? Mr. Harper has a “hidden agenda” … where Mr. Layton … Under his sweater ??? … I for one do not see it Mr. Layton … and I am a recent immigrant … the primary demographics that you are trying to scare into believing that (if it was not for you) capitalistic forces on their huge horses would take over and banish all of us to the “land of thousand winters”. Where is this agenda exactly ??? Do we not live in one of the biggest democracies in the world, are our leaders (in majority or in minority) at the end of the day not answerable to the electorate ??? And what does that have to say about our judiciary ??? Am I being told that the institutions in this country are so fickle and weak, that one man’s hidden agenda will take us all down ??? Wow, what a stretch ??? And, misinformation to an extreme ??? Since when is fear mongering, creating end of the world scenarios and playing with uninformed peoples minds the best way to become a prime minister ??? Hold on, do I see a hidden agenda here ???
If we were to take each one of our leaders for their word, then we have every reason to believe that we are surrounded by nothing but lies. Practically everyone has called everyone a liar, and called every other partys core political platform a house of lies. Wow … is everyone lying … or then who is not lying ??? I originally come from a country where politics was a sham, where politicians had nothing but their own agendas to follow, and (it gets better) the politicians never tried to hide that fact … and looking back over the last 37 days, I have to say, this election campaign felt no different. Mr. Layton, Canada is different. We have always been different, and lets send that message out to the world. This is a plea from an ordinary voter - the democracy in our cherished land would have been served much better if you would have concentrated on “your product-your ideas-your value” instead of creating paranoia about “hidden agendas”. Surely you dont think that the electorate of Canada is foolish enough to not see a hidden agenda and, lets say if we were to miss it completely, to tolerate one if it was imposed on us. No, there is no hidden agenda … atleast I dont see it … unless ofcourse it is under the sweater. Canadians are smart, our institutions strong … we dont have agendas lurking around … because if they were indeed lurking around … our collective wisdom and strength would take them down.
This is my last political post … tomorrow let us all get back to our way of life … positive, creative, all about generating value and living harmoniously. Let us not call people on their sweaters, sweaters are warm, fuzzy and nice … and if someone wants to wear it … then lets all celebrate it. I for one, support Stephen Harper in his sweater. It looks good on your Mr. Harper, and I am glad that you are wearing it now.

The opposition has done a very good job of painting the Conservatives as the devils and anti-immigrants. On the contrary, the Conservatives encourage more skilled immigration which is better for the future of Canada. It’s funny how the well reputed politicians stoop to bickering about each other and simply attempting to ridicule others as opposed to portraying the strengths of their own platform.
Anyway, the votes are cast, and we have another minority… so let’s see what comes up now. At least we don’t have deal with the likes of Palin.
