Managing and running the Microsoft BizSpark Program in Ottawa with TiE Ottawa

TiE Ottawa is rolling out the Microsoft Biz Spark Program in Ottawa as a network partner, and I will be the principal on this particular initiative for TiE with the core mandate for the management and delivery of the program in Ottawa. I have a strong affiliation with TiE, I have been a member of TiE since 2003, and it was a natural for me to run this initiative when Bharat (President of TiE Ottawa) mentioned it to me. Besides the potential of interfacing with and helping local technology startups, it also gives me a great opportunity to build bridges between TiE Ottawa and my own entrepreneurship support initiatives such as TalentBridge and Ent1O1.

BizSpark is an unique support program rolled out by Microsoft for young startups that are in the business of software development to provide them fast, affordable access to current, full-featured Microsoft tools and technologies, plus production licensing for hosted solutions. To be eligible for BizSpark support, a startup has to:

  • Be in the business of software development,
  • Be privately held,
  • Be in business for less than 3 years, and
  • Have less than US $1 million in annual revenue.
  •

To be eligible to use the software for production and deployment of hosted solutions, startups must also be developing a new “Software as a Service (SAAS) solution (on any platform) to be delivered over the Internet.  All participants in the program also have the added bonus of being featured in BizSpark DB of companies which can get them a global visibility with potential investors, partners and customers.

For further information on qualification and participation in BizSpark, please feel free to contact me at anytime. This initiative is in place to help all Ottawa based entrepreneurs and startups, and to further TiE Ottawa’s commitment to encourage and support entrepreneurship in Ottawa.
