So I am finally travelling to Mexico … I have wanted to go there since ever and, to be honest, it has always fallen off my radar while planning a vacation because nothing really stood out. That is till we recently hit ME Cancun while searching for a winter getaway (and we were looking for places in Dominican) … and the deal was secured within a full 30 seconds. Talk of the management doing a good job in presenting what looks like an awesome property … check it out at http://www.me-cancun.com/ and you will know what I mean. As a web 2.0 professional, I had to take the time to write about it before I actually find out the true magic of ME … the fun blog entries would come later with all the details of what really promises to be a fun fun vacation … because I wanted to profile what I consider is a perfect example of how to truly leverage social media. I just now got off the MySpace presence of the General Manager - Mr. Raul Petraglia - and my initial impression is totally validated. What a great way for him to present a property that he evidently is very passionate about … and evidently does a great job of running. He is leading the social media outreach in person … or has successfully created that perception … which is the need most often ignored in such initiatives. The MySpace presence is bolstered by a ME Blog, a bebo page, a facebook page, a twitter micro blog, a facebook page, a tagged page and an active ongoing conversation with folks who use tripadvisor to leave feedback for the hotel … WOW, WoW, wOw, wow … I think it was the tripadvisor engagement that really sealed it for me … no other property of a similar class (or above or below) had any active engagement of its past clientelle. Very classy indeed. My congratulations to Mr. Petraglia and his team for such a great job. It is at the end of the day all about the “hospitality” … and any little baby steps help cement the credibility … and in this case Raul and his team have taken some huge leaps … miles ahead of most folks in this industry … congrats to them again !! … I seem very impressed … and frankly I am … for the right reasons though. I advise and guide my clients on a daily basis on what to do with web 2.0 and what the ME team has achieved is what I would like to see my clients achieve … a true global footprint using the tools that web 2.0 has made possible … the ME message reached Ottawa afterall … and we were not even looking at Mexico
We fly out on the 18th and we are at ME till the 24th. I will write atleast 2-3 entries on the stay, but already (and this is quite unlike me) I am betting on a great stay. We did not want to go to an all inclusive, but were looking for a signature “chic/sophisticated/comfortable” stay … everything we have seen about ME promises to be that and more. I am definitely going to try sit down with Mr. Petraglia during my stay there, and see if I can run an interview+profile for him on this blog to capture his thoughts on web 2.0 and its role in the “hospitality industry”. The only regret is that I did not hit the blog before booking or I would have used the “MESOCIAL” promo (you can find it on the left sidebar) to get the upgrade and the VIP access … for a self confessed web 2.0 evangelist that is almost shameful … oh my my did I just again make a case for how ME Cancun is using social media to leave an impact … “MESOCIAL” … they should trademark it … signing off now to ramp down for a promising heavenly vacation …
